We’re thrilled to share that Green Trails Inn and the Pond Village Pub officially opened their doors in Brookfield this October! The moment was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the inn’s front porch, a celebration of community, hard work, and Vermont hospitality.

“This has been a labor of love, not just ours but the town’s,” said co-owner Josh Jonestein. “So many neighbors have stepped in to help, share their history, or lend their skills. That’s what has made this project special. It’s been a collective effort to bring something meaningful back to the community.”
Built in 1840 and first opened as an inn in 1932, Green Trails Inn has been part of Brookfield’s story for generations. After years of restoration, the inn stands renewed, its original wide-plank floors, handcrafted woodwork, and historic color palette restored with care. Local craftspeople, neighbors, and friends all contributed to bringing the building and grounds back to life.
Across the porch, the newly opened Pond Village Pub adds a fresh layer to that legacy — a cozy, English-inspired pub that highlights Vermont-sourced ingredients and relaxed dining. The Jonesteins worked with Mary Claire Britton, a chef and recipe developer featured in Food & Wine and Real Simple, to craft a menu that celebrates comfort, seasonality, and local flavor.
In another special full-circle moment, Andrew Doerfer, son of the late cookbook author Jane Doerfer (a former owner of the inn), now serves as the inn’s in-house baker, preparing fresh bagels and breads each weekend morning.
The reopening represents more than a restoration; it’s a renewal of community and connection. From handcrafted details to native plantings, every corner of Green Trails Inn reflects the dedication and care of those who call Brookfield home.
