Green Trails Inn

About the Inn...

Back in 1932, when the Green Trails Inn was established, Pond Village was a beautiful peaceful spot, centrally located, yet remote. Today, Pond village retains its quietude and beauty, but it is now one of Vermont's most convenient locales. Ten minutes from Interstate 89, 20 minutes from Montpelier, the state's capital, and less than an hour from Burlington--as well as the states's major ski trails--the inn offers a low key alternative for a relaxing vacation year round. Its c.1840 farmhouse faces the historic Floating Bridge, Sunset Lake, and Ariels, one of Vermonts best restaurants. Recreational opportunities abound: Sunset lake (across the road) is a pastoral spot in which to swim, fish, kayak, and canoe. Nearby is wonderful mountain biking, hiking, groomed cross country skiing trails and snowshoeing. Minutes away from Norwich University, Vermont Technical College, and Vermont Law School.

This year professional cookbook author Jane Doerfer purchased the eight bedroom inn, and remodeled and refurbished it with new beds, linens and other amenities. Guests can read or sit by the fire in the inn's great room, play board games in the breakfast space, or relax in the inn's secluded living room or rear deck. Books and magazines are everywhere. Rather than requiring a set time for breakfast, Doerfer offers a Northern European breakfast buffet with home baking to be enjoyed at the guests' convenience.

Opening season rates range from $95.00 to $135.00 a day for two, including breakfast. Solo travellers are most welcome and receive a 10% discount, as do any guests arriving by bicycle. There is a reduction for stays of five days or longer. Families---or a group of friends---can rent the annex, a separate entrance three bedroom, two bath space available for $250 a night. The inn is open throughout the year, with specific dates in winter. Special activities include Doerfer's cooking classes, and yoga classes taught by her daughter, Joanna Doerfer, a certified Kripalu yoga instructor and public health educator. What our guests are saying...

"We loved it, can't wait to return!"

My husband and I stayed at The Green Trails Inn during the weekend of August 6th, 2005.

This Inn is a jewel, located across the street from a lake and the (famous) Vermont Floating Bridge.

The accomodations could not have been better: The new owner has created a beautiful, clean and friendly environment in which to relax and enjoy the majesty of Vermont.

The beautiful wallpapered rooms are clean, furnished with the most comfortable beds you've ever slept on and so cozy.

The living room, furnished in an eclectic fashion, is inviting and offers an a peaceful place in which to read or just chat with the other guests.

And Jane, the owner is a talented cook who gave us a delicious breakfast.

This could not have been a better experience for us.
